Selena Gomez's TV film has won record ratings for its UK premiere. Wizards Of Waverly Place The Movie, which debuted on the Disney Channel on October 23, enchanted 1.2 million viewers on its premiere, and 2.5 million viewers nationwide in its opening weekend, making it the most successful non-sequel film for the channel.
Boel Fergusson, from Disney Channels UK and Ireland, said: "Wizards Of Waverly Place The Movie features great storytelling, characters and themes that have universal appeal for kids and families around the world, and the results from the phenomenal premiere weekend prove that the UK is no exception."
Wizards Of Waverly Place The Movie, which stars Selena, David Henrie and Jake T Austin, came second to High School Musical 2, which was watched by 1.6 million viewers on its premiere transmission in September 2007.
