So, you might have heard about this little film that Selena Gomez is in coming out this Friday, March 22, called Spring Breakers.Chances are, you already know that it's a much more mature role for the gorgeous gal, who was one of our 2012 Women of the Year, and something the parents of her younger fans won't want them to see. And you've probably heard that while doing press for Spring Breakers on The Late Show with David Letterman, she admitted to making ex Justin Beiber cry.
Whatever you've heard, know this: Selena is one of the most thoughtful, eloquent, and sweetest gals, and she loves her Glamour fans. I spoke with her over the weekend about that much photographed bikini she wears in the movie, what she wants her fans to know, and whether she'll cut her hair and pull a Miley. Read on!
What was the best and worst part about wearing a bikini for such a long time shooting?
Selena Gomez: [Laughs] The best part was that there wasn’t too many complications with microphones and all that stuff... it was pretty easy. The worst part was just having to wear the same bikini over and over again. I was so over seeing the orange top and green bottoms!
So after filming this movie, you totally will want to go to Cabo or South Padre Island and experience the real thing, right?
Selena: I think I got it out of my system! No, I definitely got it out of my system! It was the longest spring break. We were there for about six weeks, and it’s crazy having to be in those settings and in that environment. Now I just want to go somewhere quiet!
You've put it out there that this movie isn't exactly for some of your younger fans, but at the same time, you know they're going to want to see it even more now. What do you want them to walk away thinking?
Selena: Of course. Even the ones who don’t even really want to see it but want to understand why I did it, that’s why. You don’t get to see movies like this ever... it’s a crazy experience, this journey, and if anything I just say go in with an open mind and appreciate the performances, and yeah, it’s gonna be crazy! [laughs]
Aside from the movie being a departure from what we're used to seeing you in, I think it's safe to say we've never see James Franco quite like this either!
Selena: He’s just incredible. He’s just his own person and he has his own way of doing things, and I’m so honored that he was as giving as he was. When the cameras were on one of us, meaning it would be our time to do our footage, he was there giving an equally hard performance, even if the camera wasn’t on him. I was just really appreciative of how sweet he was and how he stayed in character and gave everything to this film. He would talk like Alien even when we weren’t shooting too, so now [that we’re doing press] I get to know a little bit about who James is more, just from hanging out with him normally. Although I kind of miss the cornrows that he sported in the movie! When I told him that, he just rolled his eyes and was like, over it. [laughs]
Now, you're not going to pull a Miley and chop off all your hair, right? Because you really do have the most gorgeous hair ever!
Selena: Oh, you’re really sweet, but don’t be fooled! I actually do have thick hair, but I love playing with extensions and cutting it. I don’t know, I like changing my style and respect people who do. It’s cool. Like, Julianne [Hough], when she cut hers... I thought that was amazing, and she said she felt free and liberated. I thought it was awesome. I don’t know, we’ll see. I actually wanted to dye my hair pink like Rachel does in the movie! I think I’ll just have to put a wig on just to experience it, because I don’t think I could mess with the darkness and go bleach-blonde and that whole process.
Speaking of the process, you girls became really close.
Selena: I love these girls. We’re just all supporting each other and being sisters.
