Selena Gomez has insisted that she "loves" not having blonde hair and blue eyes. The Ramona And Beezus star, who is of Mexican descent, has insisted that it’s important for young girls to see that they can still succeed while not having the standard 'Hollywood look'.

Speaking to Global Grind, she said: "I’m very proud of my background and where I come from. When I was younger I thought I had to have blue eyes and blonde hair and be white to [succeed], I know how some girls feel inside.

"I know they think if they want to be an actress or a singer they have to have those qualities. For me, I love not having blonde hair or blue eyes to prove that we all don’t have to look that way." Gomez recently cancelled several upcoming concert dates because of strained vocal cords.

Disney star Selena Gomez could be off for a week to rest her voice. Selena's sore throat has forced her to reschedule her performance at the Ohio State Fair on Thursday, reports say. The newly turned 18-year-old is suffering from strained vocal cords.

And according to The Columbus Dispatch, officials from the fair have released a statement that says she has been ordered by her physician to rest her voice and not travel for a week. The Ramona and Beezus actress has reportedly rescheduled the Ohio show for November 6 at the Celeste Centre at the Ohio Expo Centre.

SELENA Gomez insists music has always been her priority, even though acting brought her stardom. The Disney actress said: "Music is something I always wanted to do, but I kept it to the side to focus on acting. After a while I worked about a year on therecord and felt ready to start performing and get confidence."

The singer/actress will shoot one last series of the popular children's show and admits she's "heartbroken" about.
